Elizabeth Blackwell

Today, Feb. 3rd, Elizabeth Blackwell was born in 1821. I found this statue on the grounds of Hobart and William and Smith College, Geneva, NY. Blackwell graduated from the Medical School of Geneva (now Hobart) College in 1849, thus becoming the first woman to receive a medical degree in the U.S. “It is not easy to be a pioneer–but oh,” Blackwell once recalled, “it is fascinating! I would not trade one moment, even the worst moment, for all the riches in the world.”
