Happy Birthday Amelia Earhart

“The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. . . . You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward.” That strong woman quote is by pioneering, record-setting aviator and author Amelia Earhart, who was born today– July 24–in 1897 in Atchison, KS.  Not surprisingly, there are many memorials bearing Earhart’s name in space– “3895 Earhart,” a minor planet named in honor of Earhart and “Earhart Corona,” an oval-shaped feature on Venus. And on earth–scholarships, airports and bridges, etc. I’ve traveled to Atchison, KS, Harrison, NY, North Hollywood, CA, and Meeteetsee, WY, to photograph landmarks to Earhart–plaques, statues, a museum, a library and 1-acre landscape art made of plantings and stones.

The top photo is of the seven-foot, gold-leaf statue titled, “The Golden Girl of Aviation,” located at the corner of Magnolia Boulevard & Tujunga Ave, North Hollywood, CA; around the base are Lockheed propeller blades.    Below are the landmarks in Meeteetsee, WY and Harrison, NY:
