Landmarks to Women

This powerful memorial to Harriet Tubman by Alison Saar is located in New York City.

Happy Women’s History Month, which was first celebrated as Women’s History Week on March 1, 1978 in Sonoma County, CA. In 1987, Congress passed a resolution designating March as National Women’s History Month. This year the theme  from the National Women’s History Project is “Our History is Our Strength.”   To mark the month, I’m going to regularly post pictures of landmarks to women that I’ve discovered & photographed during the many women’s history road trips I’ve taken over the years.  I’ll start in New York City with  “Swing Low: Harriet Tubman Memorial,” by Alison Saar, which is located at W. 122nd St., at the crossroads of St. Nicholas and Frederick Douglass Blvd.
