My beloved life-partner Linda Hickson died on Saturday, January 5, 2025. I was at her side, holding her hand. Other family members were there, sharing stories.
I told them that Linda and I had a special phrase from a country western song by Randy Travis—"Forever and Forever, Amen."
We spoke "Forever and Forever, Amen" to each other, signed Valentine's Day cards, and I whispered it in her ear as she peacefully lay dying.
Shorty after I had shared that intimate detail, I heard Alvina and Stephen softly, sweetly singing "Forever and Ever, Amen."
Later on, a man rushed, in inserting himself between Linda and me. He opened her eyelid and shone a light in her eye. Just as I was about to protect her, push him away, he announced in an overly loud voice—"Time of Death±2:09.”
I am beyond words to write about what Linda meant to me. So. I will quote from our niece Julia Morgan's text: "Just heard the news, I am so terribly sorry. Linda's the most magnificent human being."
I took the photo of Linda on day 8 of our 2019 The Vote Road Trip. In that day's post, I had written:"We are close to the Scottish border in Wetheral, a village near Carlisle. At dinner tonight in a lovely conservatory dining room, Linda noted that today was the birthday of her mother, a nurse and an artist who had "lived a life of good works."
Below is a tribute written by Laraine Masters Glidden that documents Linda's professional contributions.
