Optimistic

Two grandchildren—Sophie & Natalie—are first-time voters! Thrilling for me that they can and did vote for a Madam President—Kamala Harris!

I grew up in Pennsylvania in a red-town due north of Pittsburgh, our "big city." Last night, I watched Kamala speak in Pittsburgh and stayed up for her to get to Philadelphia and speak there. She's indefatigable, and my hometown state is going to come through for her.

Today, I'm thinking of and thanking a long list of historic women and their male allies: Their names resonant in my mind—Susan B. Anthony, Lucretia Mott, Mary Church Terrell, Alice Paul, Ida B. Wells and their successors who kept up the fight—Shirley Chisholm, Geraldine Ferraro, Fannie Lou Hamer, Hillary Clinton . . .

I am optimistic and confident with my fingers and toes crossed, as my Great Aunt Frieda always advised me!
