Sacajawea, by my count, is the historic woman with the most landmarks starting with Alice Cooper’s statue of her with her infant, which was dedicated in Portland, Oregon in 1905 with 85-year-old Susan B. Anthony in attendance! Questions remain about her death date and burial place; this is the site in the “Sacajawea Cemetery,” in Fort Washakie on the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming. Dedicated in 1963, the marker reads: “Sacajawea/Died April 9, 1884/A Guide with the Lewis and Clark/Expedition/1805-1806/Identified 1907 by/Rev J Roberts/Who Officiated at/Her Burial (p.s. Linda & I did end up driving through that storm brewing in the background.)
